Tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) is used in a skin test to help diagnose tuberculosis (TB) infection in persons at increased risk of developing active disease. Tuberculin skin test is done by injecting tuberculin PPD into the surface layer of the skin. Tuberculin, also known as purified protein derivative, is a combination of proteins that are used in the diagnosis of tuberculosis. This use is referred to as the tuberculin skin test and is recommended only for those at high risk. Tuberculin is made out of an extract of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Protect from light: Tuberculin PPD solutions can be adversely affected by exposure to light. Store at 2 to 8 degrees celsius (35 to 46 degrees fahrenheit). Do not freeze.
